The Lon Death Hoax was a 2005 hoax perpetuated by Asquire purporting that Rev Dr Lon had died in a scooter accident. Though meant as a joke, it was taken seriously. Even Rev. Ivan Stang messaged his grief. The hoax quickly ended with Asquire's confessing to have made it up. Lon was entirely unaware of the hoax for weeks after the event.
Some claim this was the greatest Subgenius scandal of the second-generation of followers.
