  • Should We Fund the Documentary?

Usually all messages for SubGenius Wikia Clench are posted in a Forum (under the heading Community at top). It's a hassle posting the same message on every editor's wall. But as we're proposing donating money as a clench to another group (making the Church of the SubGenius documentary). I'm posting this on everyone's wall. Please comment soon before our deadline runs out on 31 October 2017!

  • Your block is set to end at Sat, 24 Dec 2016 12:48:05 Depending on your time zone, you can start editing articles on Christmas Eve!

  • You had removed a miscoded Delete tag from Pope Hilde & Miley Spears. While I will assume that was done in good faith, even an attempted Delete tag should be considered. Therefore I have put the delete tag on this article. While you are currently blocked from editing this site other than your own wall, because this article is partially about me, I would welcome your comments on its proposed deletion here on your wall. If other editors don't object, I will add the comments on that article that you post here to that discussion. You can see the discussion at Category_talk:Candidates_for_deletion#Pope_Hilde_.26_Miley_Spears

  • When the Construction time expires on an article (one week since the last edit), it may be deleted. However, if I ignore this past week (which admittedly is hard to do) you have been a very productive editor. I posted "Construction time expired; as a courtesy moving to user space so primary editor can work on it at their leisure" as the reason for the removal from main space.

These articles have all been moved to your user space. They are named as they were except your user name comes first. For example, A.I.D.S. is now at User:Karlbarx/A.I.D.S. If you look under your contributions, or type in User:Karlbarx/ in the search window, you can find them. When your block is over, you can edit them. You can even copy and paste them into a word processing program now and work on them off of this site.

I hope you return to being a productive editor.

    • I basically agree except I strongly dislike the idea of not allowing anyone to post on their own wall. If he makes more threats, then yes, let's block him even from his own wall and probably make it an indefinite ban (infinite unless we change it). If he's just insulting us and ranting, I would prefer letting him post, at least until his extended blocks reach infinity.

Hopefully he will calm down and return to being a productive editor, but that's his choice. Right now he can starting posting on Christmas Eve.

    • OK I guess we can tolerate his insults on his own wall. But any more threats and he's banned from posting period.

  • You got a three hour block, then continued to cause problems so got a 24 hour block reduced to an 8 hour block, then continued to cause problems so got a three-day block. Then you posted "Bleed me a picture please, and just shove it up your giant FAT suburban white trash ass lady. Just die." But even worse you posted the suggested caption for an image as "KILL 'POPE HILDE'".

I got advice from Wikia Staff. I was told the staff member would have made your block much longer than we did. And I also got advice about the "KILL 'POPE HILDE'" part from someone who knows a lot about the law. I don't think you understand how serious this is. If you had posted that as the caption instead of a suggested caption, we could have called the FBI and you could have been arrested. Telling people to kill someone is extremely serious. They said even with just a suggested caption you could be questioned by the police and if you knew where Pope Hilde lived she could have filed a restraining order against you.

I also got advice from a couple admins to block you permanently. If Pope Hilde wants to do that I will support that.

For now I'm giving you a block of one month. If you make a threat like that again we may well call law enforcement on you. So don't do it again.

    • "Bob" isn't a real person anymore because he died in 1984. Hilde is still alive so she is real. Imaginary characters don't get married have three kids and edit wikis! :)

It would be a lot easier if I were imaginary.

  • straight from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reusing_Wikipedia_content

Fair use materials and special requirements

All original Wikipedia text is distributed under the GFDL and CC-BY-SA licenses. Occasionally, Wikipedia articles may include images, sounds, or text quotes used under the "fair use" doctrine of United States law. It is preferred that these be obtained under the most free (libre) license (such as the freely licensed or public domain) practical. In cases where no such images/sounds are currently available, then fair use images are acceptable (until such time as free images become available).

In such a case, the material should be identified as from an external source (on the image description page, or history page, as appropriate). As "fair use" is specific to the use that you contemplate it is best if your describe the fair use rationale for such specific use either in hidden text in the article or on the image description page. Remember what is fair use for Wikipedia may not be considered a fair use for your intended use of the content in another context.

For example, if we include an image under fair use, you must ensure that your use of the article also qualifies for fair use (this might not be the case, for example, if you were using a Wikipedia article for a commercial use that would otherwise be allowed by our licenses and the doctrine of fair use, would not be allowed under that commercial use). Re-users of Wikipedia images outside of the United States should also be aware that it may well be that fair use as it is known in the U.S. just may not exist at all in their jurisdiction. Most other countries have only well-defined exceptions for using copyrighted works without having been granted an explicit license. In the Commonwealth nations, there is fair dealing. Countries that follow the Berne Convention have similar exceptions for narrowly defined cases. Short quotations from copyrighted works are allowed, provided the source is properly attributed. What other exceptions may exist depends entirely of the laws of the country you're in.

I assume you would want to take this down, its illegally copied too right?

    • I do not intend to get into a continuing legal argument with you, so this is my last comment on this topic. I am not a licensed attorney and I suspect you aren't either.

Your example is an image, when no adequate substitute is available, when it's properly attributed, on the non-profit Wikipedia.

But what you posted were writings, when adequate substitutes were available (for example your original writing which is the main focus of this wiki), without attribution, on the for-profit wikia.com

If you can get a legal representative of Wikia to say it's allowed to post copyrighted material here without permission, whether or not it's attributed, then have them let me know. Until them, I'm following the law, Wikia policy, and the policy-by-consensus of this website as I understand it.
